Since its introduction in the 1980s, there have been
several generations of lasers, some based off of CO2 laser mechanics, others totally distinct in their mode of action,
but regardless, all are compared at some point to the results
obtained from CO2 laser ablation. This is because for many
patients, it is still the ‘gold standard’ for dramatically improving
wrinkes, texture, and tone of lifeless, dull appearing skin .

The laser works by completely removing the epidermis and part
of the dermis, and results in wound remodeling with subsequent
new collagen and elastin fiber formation that translates into
healthier, firmer, and tighter skin. As with most things in life, one
must balance the pluses and minuses; there is a period of redness
while the new fresher layer of skin is reformed.

Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth are removed,
while the deeper frown lines and grooves are softened. Once
the outer layer of skin has been removed, the new skin beneath reveals a softer, smoother, more youthful appearance. It is not
unusual for patients to say the laser can erase up to ten years of
