Mohs Surgeon
Dr. Christopher Ewanowski is one of the few board certified, fellowship-trained dermatologic surgeons in the Bay Area specializing in laser surgery, Mohs Micrographic Surgery, and reconstructive and cosmetic dermatologic surgery.
Dr. Ewanowski is a native of Tampa, went to Jesuit High School, and was an undergraduate at the University of South Florida. Upon receiving his M.D. from the University of the South Florida College of Medicine in 2003, he went on to complete plastic and general surgical internship at the University of California San Francisco.
He focused on the cutting-edge surgical management of skin conditions including laser surgery, skin cancer surgery, and reconstructive surgery as a dermatology resident at Georgetown University Hospital.
After finishing his training in Georgetown in the year 2007, Dr. Ewanowski became one of the only around 65 dermatologists in the world to start a dermatologic surgery fellowship focusing on laser, skin oncology and Mohs, and reconstructive surgery.
He completed this fellowship, which is approved by the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery, in 2008 under the tutelage of Pearson Lang M.D. and Joel Cook M.D., two of the most eminent and renowned Mohs surgeons in the US. Subsequently, Dr. Ewanowski returned home and set-up Suncoast Skin Solutions in 2008.

In comparison to routine excision, Mohs surgery looks at 99 percent more of the edges around the removed tissue. Therefore, it offers a far superior rate of clearance for tumors.
It is troublesome enough to undergo surgery to remove a basal cell on the nose or melanoma on the cheek. But repeating the process for the same incompletely removed cancer is unnecessary.
Fellowship trained Mohs surgeons devote an extra year of their training to specializing in tumor extirpation, analyzing difficult histologic variants of cancers under the microscope, and refining grafts and flaps to create less visible post-operative scarring.
