Loose, redundant skin around the eyes can make you look and feel much older than you are. The presence of periocular puffiness and sagging skin is associated with fatigue and sadness, and often the outside appearance doesn’t mesh with what you
may feel on the inside. Patients seeking to change this perception and obtain a more energetic and youthful look often elect for a bleparoplasty, or eyelid surgery.
This procedure, performed under local anesthesia, is performed in the office. For the upper eyelids, the surgeon places fine incisions in the natural eyelid crease. A thin crescent of excess skin is removed and additional muscle or fat may be sculpted.
After surgery, the area surrounding the eyes is swollen with minimal bruising for a week to ten days. At night, you should keep your head elevated on several pillows, and place cold compresses every few hours for the first night. Contact lenses are not advised for the first week, due to stiffness and soreness. Make-up is allowed after the first week. Because of the placement of the suture lines, the scars are barely perceptible and follow the natural contours of the eyes.
During your initial cosmetic consultation, Dr. Ewanowski will discuss your particular condition, your expectations, and the probable outcome of treatment. Any and all questions will be answered, and you will be walked through the whole procedure one step at a time. For more information, contact us.
