Dermal Fillers

The face can experience significant volume loss due to aging, which may result in deep wrinkles and furrows. These depressions are perceptible to the human eye due to the light in the ‘valleys’ of the face.

This retained light in the form of linear shows leads us to estimate age accurately. To address this issue and help a patient appear more youthful, these depressed areas must be treated. There are two routes to correction.

Other than invasive surgery, few options existed to the correction of mid and lower face aging. Facelifts and other surgical procedure pull the skin tight, similar to a bunched up bed sheet that can be made flat by stretching the edges.

Filling in the valleys is another way to eliminate wrinkles. The low spots are eliminated by filling them with injectable dermal filler. This is a straightforward, in-office procedure with less downtime and noticeable outcomes.

Collagen is one of the earliest available options and was a viable choice. However, testing for allergy is necessary prior to injecting collagen to ensure the absence of an allergic reaction.

But hyaluronic acid derivatives are recent developments in dermal filling technology. No prior testing is necessary when administering these fillers. Brand-name fillers in the hyaluronic acid family include Juvederm, Restylane, Captique, and Perlane.

There are many new products available today, including Radiesse which comprises microspheres of calcium hydroxyl appetite suspended in an aqueous gel carrier, or Sculptra, which is a poly-L-lactic acid substance necessitating multiple treatments.

Restylane and other HA fillers maintain their shape by using the body’s own moisture. The HA in Restylane is hydrophilic (water-loving), and it soaks up and retains water to create a plumping effect underneath the skin.

A Pleasant Affect

HA slowly degrades slowly over time. This allows each molecule to bind to more water creating the same fullness with less HA. This water binding ability of HA allows it to create sustainable outcomes.

Nasolabial folds and the lip area respond well to treatment with injectable fillers such as Restylane. However, beautiful outcomes depend on the choice of correct filler type, the correct amount of filler, and the timing of the medical spa procedure.

While all options are available at Suncoast Skin Solutions, the expert practitioners will choose a treatment that is most suitable for the specific patient. The practice does not follow a ‘cookie-cutter’ approach and pledges to deliver unique solutions customized to the patient’s needs.
